The film centres on Frantz Fanon, who has just been appointed chief medical officer at the psychiatric hospital in Blida, Algeria. Very soon, the innovative and sensitive treatment that he gives his patients incurs the wrath of his colleagues and the director of the clinic. His determination piques the interest of the National Liberation Front leader, Abane Ramdane, who offers him the chance to join his fight.
